Kannur district shares its borders with the Western Ghats and Arabian Sea. Kannur is best known for its vast stretches of sandy beaches such as Muzhuppilangad Drive-in Beach, Payyambalam Beach, Meenkunnu Beach, Ezhimala Beach,Thottada Beach and  Ezhara Beach.

St. Angelo Fort, also known as Kannur Fort, is a fort facing the Arabian Sea. The Fort was built in 1505 by Dom Francisco de Almeida, the first Portuguese Viceroy of India.The Moppila Bay Harbor and Arakkal Mosque are near the fort.
